Students from Mercy Secondary School Mounthawk, Tralee, Co. Kerry declared Republic of Ireland winners at the finals of the cross-border 2012 My Vision for Europe competition

02-03-2012

Once upon a time in Euroland, a prince called Ireland met a princess called Euro. The story of their romance  carried the day for students from the Mercy Secondary School Mounthawk, Tralee, Co. Kerry who were declared the Republic of Ireland winners at today's finals of the 2012 My Vision for Europe competition.  The students explained to the judges why they had chosen to put together a 4-minute video which imaginatively tells the story of EU formation as a fairy tale romance and explains how shared values and interests made them natural companions.   The Mercy School students, together with students from Strathearn School in Belfast, who won the competition for schools from Northern Ireland, will participate in the European Parliament's Euroscola programme in Strasbourg in May. Three Irish members of the European Parliament attended the event in the Irish Film Institute in Dublin today.
