77 schools from 25 counties throughout Ireland to compete in first My Vision for Europe competition

The European Parliament Office is delighted to announce that 77 schools from 25 counties throughout Ireland (3 from Northern Ireland) will participate in the first My Vision for Europe competition.  Participating teams of students will create and record short videos representing their visions for the European Union and load them onto the www.myvisionforeurope.com website before Friday, 4 February.

The selected entries, representing the European Parliament constituencies, will present their visions for Europe to Irish MEPs at a special event in March 2010.  The two winning teams will be invited to bring their classmates to Strasbourg to participate in the European Parliament's Euroscola programme in April 2010.

Announcing the results, Francis Jacobs, Head of the European Parliament Office in Ireland said that 'this competition promises to be exciting with 25 counties represented.  It is clear from the response we have received that young people have a message to convey about the EU and its future direction.  This new competition is their opportunity to do so.'

My Vision for Europe is organised by a partnership including the European Parliament Office in Ireland, the European Movement Ireland, the European Studies programme, Community Relations in Schools (CRIS), the Michael Sweetman Trust, TalktoEU and Léargas. It was inspired by the EYou Schools Competition, previously organised by the National Forum on Europe.
