European Night in Galway with Seán Ó Neachtain MEP - 16 November 2007

09-11-2007

On Friday, 16 November 2007, Seán Ó Neachtain MEP will be in the Ardilaun Hotel in Galway to give an outline of his work as an MEP and to answer questions and listen to the concerns of people in Galway. The aim of this public event, which is being hosted by the European Parliament Office in Ireland, is to give Irish people a chance to hear for themselves what an MEP does in the European Parliament and, more importantly, to point to issues of particular concern to them which they would like their local MEP to raise on their behalf at European Parliament level. Similar events are being organised throughout the EU.

The meeting is open to all and admission is free.

Seán Ó Neachtain MEP (Reverse link define here :reverse_link_8_Irish_pol_groupsFianna Fáil) is very active in two of the European Parliament's Committees dealing with fisheries and with transport & tourism. He is also represented on the Committee on Budgets and on the European Parliament's delegation to South Africa. He is the Chairman of the European Parliament's delegation to Canada.

Seán has identified his current priorities as follows:

"1. I am working in Europe to ensure that the European Commission approves the applications of the Irish Government to allow 25 million Euro state aid to be given to Shannon airport and to allow 66 million Euro state aid to de-commission one third of the Irish whitefish fleet sector.

2. I am campaigning against the negotiating position of Commissioner Mandelson in the context of the WTO talks. His strategy is bad news for Irish farmers and we must stop Commissioner Mandelson in his tracks.

3. I welcome the support which the President of the European Commission has said that the EU will give Northern Ireland and the border country region in the coming years. I am working with the European Commission on the way forward at the EU level to support the border country region of Ireland."

Programme for the event.
