St Flannans transition year students will participate in Euroscola
on 24 September
This year's winners of the "Model Council of the European Union" debate organised by the European Commission Representation will travel to Strasbourg with their class to participate in the Euroscola programme. 29 schools from across Ireland met in Dublin Castle on 2 March 2010 to debate a mock EU Directive on the use of electric cars in Europe.
A group from St Mary's Diocesan School Drogheda will travel to Strasbourg on 21 May to take part in the Euroscola programme, a prize for their success in the 'My Vision for Europe' competition which is an all-Ireland competition where students compete in presenting their thoughts on the future of the European Union using Youtube videos.
A group of 25 year transition and fifth year students from Killarney attended the Euroscola Programme of the European Parliament in Strasbourg on 9 May to mark Europe Day and the 60th Anniversary of the "Schuman Declaration".
Secondary school students from St Mary's College, Galway, will participate in the Euroscola programme on 29 April in the European Parliament in Strasbourg. They will be accompanied by their teachers Bartley Fannin and Maura Geoghegan.

On 28 April a group of transition students from St. Columba's College Donegal will travel to Strasbourg to participate in the Euroscola programme. These transition year pupils are being taught European Studies as part of their Transition Year Programme. They are linked up with schools from Dublin. Belfast, Poland, Slovakia and work on different projects throughout the year. They have competed many times in the National Forum on Europe Public Speaking Competitions.
On 23 April, 25 Irish secondary schools students, winners of this year's Graduate Online Youth Quiz, will participate in the European Parliament's EUROSCOLA programme, representing Ireland in Strasbourg. The 'Graduate Online Youth Quiz' is a free on-line educational Quiz for primary and post primary students throughout Ireland. During the Euroscola day, the students will get the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the workings of the European Parliament.
In 1976 friends and associates of the late Michael Sweetman established an Educational Trust in his memory. It was decided to establish a competition with a European dimension for students of VEC Schools, Colleges and Centres and each year prize winners are awarded a trip to Strasbourg.
A group of twenty-five students and three teachers from Davitt College, Co. Mayo represented Ireland in the Euroscola programme of the European Parliament in Strasbourg on 23 February 2010. The group was recommended by the European Parliament Office in Dublin, on the strength of their European studies and projects. This is one of the modules in the Transition Year programme in Davitt College, and the school has been heavily involved in European projects over the past 30 years.
This competition had over 1900 applications from students throughout Ireland, aged between 16-18 years. 24 students are the result of some 200 interviews all over Ireland. The winners are judged solely on their potential as leaders.
The week long programme starts in Belfast with a visit to Stormont. Here they meet MLA from all parties, and after a question and answer time they will sit in an assembly session. They have also included trips to Belfast City Hall, a visit to the European Parliament office in Dublin where they will prepare for their Euroscola day in Strasbourg on 23 February, then a visit the Dail to meet TD/Senators and sit in on debates in chambers.

Mercy Secondary School, Kilbeggan took part in a Euroscola day in Strasbourg
8 transition students from Mercy Secondary School Kilbeggan took part in a Euroscola day in Strasbourg. Winners of the European Business Studies competition "A Europe for all" joined the other winning schools from both Southern and Northern Ireland for the day. St Louis High School Rathmines were one of the winning schools who entered the 'A Europe for all' competition organised by the European Studies Office. Eight students entered the competition and created a pamphlet regarding inequality in our society. They travelled out to Strasbourg on 21 January to participate in the Euroscola programme on 22 January.
A group of 11 students from St. Colman's College participated in the Euroscola programme with students from 23 member states on Friday, 18 September. Keith Hennelly, one of the St. Colman's students was further honoured by being given the task of interviewing Socialist Party MEP Joe Higgins.
